If you’re teetering on the edge of applying to speak at WordCamp but maybe are still a little intimidated about the prospect of public speaking, don’t worry – help is on the way!
One of the core tenets of WordCamp centers around inclusion and diversity. This goes for speakers, attendees, volunteers – the whole gamut.
And it extends to diversity of experience levels as well.
So even if you’re not a seasoned public speaker or a seasoned WordPress pro but you still have an experience or a WordPress topic you know a little something about and want to share, we want to hear from you.
To that end, and to help those out who may be newer to the public speaking scene (or even those who just want to build those muscles a little bit)…
We’ve organized a handful of hands-on Speaker Training Workshops over the next month or so.
These are pretty casual affairs, so no stress there.
We’ll look at what has stopped you from speaking in the past and how to move beyond your fears. We will discuss some common myths about public speaking, explore different talk formats, and brainstorm topics you can talk about at a WordCamp.
We’ll also be sharing ideas and tips for how to be a better speaker.
You’ll walk out of the workshop with:
- a WordCamp or Meetup talk idea
- a writeup that can be used to apply to speak at WordCamp 2017
- and the confidence to submit it.
***You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience.
We have 3 of these Speaker Training workshops scheduled in June around the Sound:
Saturday, June 10th – at the WordPress Study Group for Women in Seattle
Tuesday, June 20th – at The Big Meetup in Seattle
Wednesday, June 21st – at the South Sound WordPress Meetup in Gig Harbor
We’re also working on one potentially up north in the Bellingham area in early July. (We’ll keep you posted.)
If you have any questions about the workshops, please feel free to reach out to us. Otherwise, RSVP to the meetup for the workshop date that works for you and we’ll see you there!
Or if you don’t need no stinkin’ workshop and are ready to submit your pitch, don’t let us stand in your way. Head on over and apply to speak right now.
In the spirit of our open-source community, we’re trying to reach as many folks as possible to spread the good word about the amazing benefits of WordPress and WordCamp and all the feel-goodness that being able to contribute as a speaker brings.
If you could take a few minutes to help us out and share this with your social media networks so we can get the word out beyond the usual pool of WordPress enthusiasts, that would be amazing.
